Napa Cabbage

Also known as celery cabbage, wong nga bok, siu choy (Chinese) and hakusai (Japanese), Napa cabbage is a type of Chinese cabbage originating near the Beijing region of China, and is widely used in East Asian cuisine.

Care and Handling

Ideal Storage Temperature: 33°-36°F. 90-95% relative humidity. Refrigerate immediately after receiving.

Tips

  • Look for light green leaves with a squared-off tip. Green to slightly pale leaves are better than yellow or white. Fairly thick and pliable leaves will be more tender and juicy. Good quality product will be loose-leafed, and fairly heavy in relation to size.
  • Replace traditional cabbage with Napa cabbage in recipes, but reduce cooking time (tender leaves cook faster).
